Twine price increase

I just got pricing on baler twine - apparently it is taking another big jump again this year!

A couple of local guys and myself get together and make a quantity buy to get better pricing and after shopping around, the best we could get on 9000 or 10,000 New Holland sisal was just under $28/bundle for a 100+ bundle purchase.

The dealers are saying that it may hit $40 by the summer. Does anyone know what real cause is? I have heard everything from a sisal shortage due to increased demand by rug makers, to Katrina related issues.

To top it off, our fertilizer supplier won't even quote for another 3 weeks - normally they give us a preseason discount for ordering early.

Is anyone else running into this?

16,000 sisal, treated $26.99
16,000 sisal, untreated $32.99
10,000 sisal, treated $29.99

Figured this was pretty good so I bought my years supply. Ammonium nitrate at $295, DAP at $320, Muriate of Potash $280.

Killers this year for me are plastic for round baled silage. Last year $70 a roll (2 rolls wrap 50 bales), and I got a pallet for that. New stock is $99 a roll. I got a real shock ordering rock and asphault for a couple of lots I'm developing. 495 feet of road to county spec $25,000 for materials, double what it was last year.

I've been talking to the 4 largest twine companies doing business in the USA and for 16000 treated sisal their price is above the $26.99 you have quoted. You need to purchase all that twine you need because the end user's price for 16000 treated twine that will be delivered this year will be above $30.

Already got a 1/2 pallet of each of the 3 twines :), plus a 1/2 pallet of that high dollar plastic.

I am still waiting for my New Holland Dealer to give me a pallet price on twine. I found that it will be $28.00 for 7200 sisal priced by the bale at a local cattle auction, they said they already have the supply so the price will stay the same.

Hello, my sisal has went up but our plastic has went down. Im not sure about the price going up as the year goes on, but why the hell not, everything else it. I sure do wish they would figure out that they cant keep charging more at the beginning of something and at the end of it. Like charging us more for fertilizer, and then paying us about the same for the steer, then charging the hell out of someone at the walmart. As far as fertilizer goes, they have quoted it but it is for the day you ask, it changes day to day, That makes no sense to me, it isnt like they are getting in new everyday, its the same stuff laying there. Its like 2 years ago when steel was jumping up and down, the same T-post changed prices everyday. GRRR damn this is gonna be a sore subject....

just recieved quote from area deere dealer on 16000 sisal for round balers 32.00 per bundle. they were limited to 14 pallet which is less than 1/3 of what they need.
Ammonium nitrate currently @ 390. per ton
