I,am thinking of putting a 1000 rpm shaft on my 346 and set a record on hay baling.
it will do 10 bales in 78 sec at 540.

That proves it then. 4500 bales in less than 10 hrs. That is if you don't have to stop for fuel and twine or something to eat. :-)

Maybe it's my lack of a sence of humor talking, but if you want to bale fast buy a large square baler.

You should consider a bigger tractor too, atleats 150 HP so you can fly across the feild in atleast 6th gear. Put a 30 ft. wagon behind it, they'll fly all the way to the back no problem. Still have to change wagons every 10 minutes at the max though..... .

I saw a guy do that once with an old NH. It was going good until the hay chute caught fire fromthe friction. Luckily he got it put out before he lost the whole machine. He finally had to buy a perservative attachement and insteaad of using the perservative, he applied water with it to cut down on the fire hazard. Also worked well early mornings and late afternoon when the hay had moisture from the dew.

It will help if you bypass the govenor on your 1000pto tractor & get the tractor running about 50% over speed as well.

Theres a reason they made it for the 540rpm PTO. Think about it this way, what would happen to an engine the say has a red line of 2000RPM. And you ran it at say 4000 RPM. Yep it would blow parts all over kingdom come. Same thing will/would happen to the baler, but if you want to spend a lot of money on a new baler go ahead and blow it to kingdom come, that is if it doesn't kill you when it does that is. Yep also very unsafe you might end up with a part flying who know where.

And how long do you think it will last- 10 bales? 100? Anybody want to bet it won't make a 1000 bales before something breaks rom running faster than designed? RN

I pull my 346 with a 7810 does fine at 1950 rpm
go to 2100 every thing goes wrong
