Just to add to the confusion, my Hotline Farm
Equipment Guide says the 273 was made from
1971 to 1976 with the beginning serial number
170655.

No confusion, Hotline is just wrong. They may have the starting S/N for 1971 correct, but 273 production did begin in 1968.

According to Norm Swinford"s book, "A Century of Ford and New Holland Farm Equipment" the first year was 1968 for the 273, but the book doesn"t break it down by serial number so it would have to be 1968 or something a liitle later than that.
