Ok - so I got a cultivator built and I am 95% done with the homemade disc for my 8N. Now I'm experiencing withdrawls! What should I build next?

The most useful thing I have for my Fords, is, a 3 point fork lift.. I cannot pick things high, but can move them anywhere. Put anything on a pallet. lots of luck ,joe

maybe convert an old planter, make a 3pt carrier, make a small single or double row spike tooth to hand on the disc,a grader blade, subsoiler,a mole to go with the subsoiler. if you've got the money for the scrap steel, the mischief you can get into is enless. a light weight cab for pushing snow or just keeping out of rain or the sun.buckrake, grader blade. get an old ag welding book off ebay and the list is endless

Maybe I missed something in the picture but it looks to me like the center is adjusted all the way back as it sets. That would appear to be the wrong direction for the best job. It also appears that the chain will intefer with any adjustment at the center back.
It also seems to be a little light. Of course you can load it but then you need to be concerned about the links you have to the disk bearings.
You certainly have the right idea and has the appearance of a good job. Luck to you..... .

Actually, it is adjusted all the way Forward in the photo! I can slide the inner straps (going to the inside bearings) back to over 35*. The chain is adjustable.

Looks like you did a nice job. I was wondering about the chain and extended bar though. If your sitting on an 8N seat and something broke/came loose, that link on the very top looks like a real spine breaker. Not trying to rain on your parade or anything but, something to think about.

There realy isnt to much pressure on the chain. All it does is keep the weight tray from rotating when the disc is down. When raised for transport, there is tension, but not a whole terrible amount.
Thanks for the concern!

The concer is not on the normal loading on the chain. I think the concern more comes in if a link were to break and the disc were to drag back, pivoting that high lift bar toward the operators seat. Looks like you did a nice job , just concerned at a potental injury that you may have missed.

Well - thanks for the concern! If the gang were to drop, the front of the disc is still held by the top link. Even if it did move it would be backwards. The top of the front piece is only 15" above the top link and is well below the drive except during transport.

Nice picture. I never believe in throwing things away. I was thinking of doing the same thing to an old 8 foot trailing disc that is pretty worn.

How about fabbing a small spike harrow to drag behind the disc?

Rick

Looks like you should add some adjustment bars to that disc so you can change the tilt or angle of the blades. All the factory made one have that type of adjustment. Just some thing to think about. Shoot you should try one like what I have been doing. I'm putting an Oliver 60 engine into a Cletrac HG and its getting to be fun and not in a good way. LOL

The adjustment bars are attached to the two inside ends of the gangs. They silde out to change the angle of the gangs. I just put the gangs straight for the photo! Thanks!

Well I think you oughta make those disc larger for one thing . They look small enough for a smaller riding tractor . Reminds me of a nice set of spring tooth harrows my Dad cut apart years ago to make a small set to use behind his little riding tractor . I acquired all the peices . So maybe someday I'll rebuild them back to my n size again .Have fun & play safely . Ken

The whole thing measures just over 8' wide and hangs 48" back from the lifting arms when the gangs are straight! It looks smaller in the photo!

Don't you have those disk blades running straight? Maybe even backward a little?

Yeah - they will adjust out to 35*, or so. I ran them straight out through a garden plot for a few minutes last night - seemed to wirk pretty well. But, again, they do adjust! Thanks!
