That same piece fits all John Deere planters except the horse drawn and vegetable planters from the first 290 & 490 planters all thru the 494, 494A, 694, 694A, 894, 894A, 1200 series thru the 7000 series plate type planters and your John Deere dealer should have it avaible for less than shipping would be for a used piece, it also fits the earliest 4 row planter John Deere ever built being a model 450 from the 1930's and my 450 has the same hoppers on that was used on the GP tractor 3 row mounted planter

There could be some difference. The hoppers from my 290 would almost fit on the 70s. The top end of the 70 drive unit was a little larger diameter and would not let the base plate sit on the top of the shoe. 494 hoppers fit.

The hopper bottom is a different size on the later planters but that piece that he is talking about is just the plate drive and they are all the same

I have an extra one that fits a JD 246. I'm not sure if that is the same one as the one in a 290. If it is, let me know.
