Hoping you guys can help me understand the number/letter castings on these shares I found in the shop & cleaned up.

Spent an hour or two searching the archives to find a little info on the Syracuse point, but nothing on the C 33-A Deere point.

By the way, what's the deal w/ the little tab & t!t on the Syracuse point?

Here is the "code" for Syracuse plow points in a nutshell. Right hand plows used 1442 for 12" bottoms, 1441 or 1451 for 14" and 1450 for 16" bottoms, for left hand bottoms the "14" was changed to a "13". Additionally the letters "DS" meant "deep suck" and "DDS" meant "double deep suck" "QD" indicated quick detach points meaning the point was held in place with a draw bolt with a loop for a head. The "loop" went over the tab or finger on the point. A plow bottom assembly was assigned a number/letter designation and consisted of the frog and all the bolt ons, point, moldboard, shin landside and braces. Some parts were used on many different bottoms making the plow bottom parts catalog fairly confusing.

I don't know of any way to date them except I think the Syracuse bottoms were discontinued about 1953, I don't know how long replacement parts were supplied.

Hey JD:

I need to make sure it doesn't fit my converted Deere plow. If it doesn't, I might be interested in a trade.

My Ferguson 2-bottom needs a new pair of points. You wouldn't happen to have a pair of HF general purpose points layin' around? Not interested in razor shares.
