NH 644 round baler trouble

I have a NH 644 baler and after about 2 seasons of baling it began breaking shear bolts. It breaks them after the core is formed and pressure is put on the belts. The pressure is set to factory specs. I took off all the belts and chains and checked all the rolers. All seemed fine but they had no pressure on them. I have baled over a thousand bales since it started by putting a screwdriver in the shearbolt hole. (Not smart I know) The baler bales fine but loads the tractor pretty good. Any help or ideas is appreciated.

I adjusted the sledge clutch last spring per instructions from a NH mechanic after I read several things that pointed to the sledge assembly. Didn't occur to me it could be bad. Aggravation will blind you. Is there a way to tell if the clutch is bad or is it a try it and see approach? Also do you know how to adjust it? I'm wondering if he told me right.

Check the belt routing. On a 664 there is a round tube on the tailgate near the rollers. Very easy to go over this tube rather than behind. Takes extra power and the belt will stretch. Don't ask how I know.

One other thing to do is to check your bearings in the field. Make some bales then shut down your baler. Go around and CAREFULLY feel each bearing to see if it is getting hot. If that tractor is working extra hard that power is being converted to heat somewhere. Keep looking. Whatever it is it should be something simple. Good luck.

Sounds like the clutch is bad on the sledge roll assy.
