My grandfather had one, but I have forgotten how it was put together. I need to be able to haul 50 bushels of grain at a time for my very small organic hog operation. Wondering if anyone has any pictures of a similar contraption?

John

Northern Handyman sells a small gravity flow wagon that holds 2200# of grain. Item # 125425

I have such a unit for sale. It holds 50 bushel has its own stand and shutoff control. lid and all. It is what we call in my area a bulk seed tender tank.

A local farm that rents several properties has an old Chevy C-60 cab and chassis set up with a gravity wagon box on it. Isn't the prettiest thing on the road, but during harvest season, it's always on the road. Alot faster and more efficent than hauling a wagon with a tractor.

You aren't from around the midwest USA are you. :) Are you looking for something that the grain slides out of, you don't have to scoop or sweep or etc? That is what most are describing here, a bin with angled bottom so it drains out.

Why not use an old pull type or even an early SP combine bin? They are 45-50 bushel and they are already made. I have several that I use for moving small quantities. One from a Case and the other from a Gleaner. Here you can buy them very cheap, less than scrap metal prices. both have skids under them and slide right in between the fenders of the pickup. On my flatbed I just use 10,000 lb. rated ratchet straps to hold it in place.

That is a great idea with the combine hopper! Why didn't I think of that. It would work perfectly and you are right...it is already made.

Thanks

A gravity wagon is a wgaon with sloped end walls and one sloped side wall. The other sidewall is vertical with a door at the bottom. Works like a hopper trailer. You could take a gravity bed (not the whole wagon) and mount it on the back of a truck frame behind the cab.

What's a gravity wagon? Can it travel on the highway at 110 kph?

The smallest commercialy made hopper bed; what the bed part is called in a gravity wagon; is a 125 bu size and will measure 6 ft. wide by 10 ft. long and could be mounted on a 1 ton dual wheel truck chassie that would handle a 12 foot flat bed, the unloading door would be in front of the rear tires, you could look at prety much any bed and copy and reduce down for size to make a bed for a 1/2 or 3/4 ton truck
