That would be a No. 51 plow, built from 1935 to 1947.

That was our first tractor plow, bought in 1943 with our Model "B" tractor. I still have the clevis, but it is mostly worn through.

It's an asset to all of us JD lovers to have a person like Stan, with all his knowlege, and so willing to share it.While restoring my '50 B, 2 row quick-tatch cult. and this #51 plow, I know where I willbe comming with my questions. Thanks again.

B-maniac,

I'm not sure I deserve all those good comments, but I try. As I said in my working life, "I may not know much, but I know where to look or who to ask". It worked for 34 years, and neither the Company nor I got the short end of the stick.

I have a lot of literature, and have used a lot of the tractors and machinery from the '40s and '50s, so maybe I can be of some help in the future. I'm sure not a technical guru, however.

It was not a bad year but it was no record year.
We were extreamly thankful for what we had considering 100degree days during pollination and no rain for 6wks in 2 streches.

Hope alls going well near that space cost.

Stan, you wouldn't happen to have any information about a John Deere 5a combine would you? I've got one that is nearing the top of my projects list that I'd like to put back into shape, but I can't seem to find any information about it at all. Just kinda flying blind at the moment. Thanks.

David,

After my last comment about having a lot of literature, I am embarrassed to admit that I don't have anything that far back. Dad had his oats and wheat threshed by the local threshing ring until 1946, I think, and then we hired custom operators for several years.

There is a parts catalog listed in Deere's Service Publications Catalog (June 95). It is CAT54H (01JUL45). If you don't have this, you might call 800 522-7448 to see if you can get one.

Sorry I can't help more,

Stan

Thanks for the help anyways. I'll keep those numbers handy. I do have an operator/setup manual on order from deere, but its taking quite awhile. Probably don't sale too many of those and they might have to print one up, its hard to say. Thanks again.
