ok, So, now I'm looking at a John Deere 920 MoCo with an impellar on the rear. Just came into dealer. Looks New. Has cut approx. 500 Acres. Paint still on the discs and impellar. Price is 9500. New one would run about 22,000.
I have never used an impellar. Good or bad points? Model 920 JD? Any good or bad points?
Thanks for any opinions you can give.

I have had a kuhn with the impellers for about four years now and love it. The kuhn has a two speed gear box for the impellers. I run it on the low side for alfalfa with no problems at all. I love the swivel hitch on it, no more chattering PTO shaft..... Jim

Bought 926 impeller last march, would have got a 920 had I found a good one. 920"s were highly recomended to me. I make alfalfa and grass hay along with straw. Have no more leave damage to alfalfa then I did with my 1219 roll machine. There is a adjustable baffle that you can open if you do have leave damage. The only problem with them is they take a lot of hp. 125 hp would be about right. I run my with a 75hp 2755 JD, in 1st cut heavy alf/orch, on hill ground it really slows me down. Only thing I can tell you is to run the impeller in the slower speed, they come from the factory in the higher speed. You change the impeller speed by switching the impeller drive gears. I"m not sure if you can do this to a 920, I"m only asuming they are the same as a 926.

M Nut,if the 920 has the 3 pt attachment to mount header it does't follow rough ground very well IMHO. Tx Jim

You'll get quite a range of opinions here. I'm pretty sure that most alfalfa guys don't like them as it is thought that the impellers shred the leaves. Me, I grow grass and when I want to make dry hay for bedding a barrow an impeller machine and I think it works much better then a roller machine if you set it up right. The rest of the time I put up grass silage which I use a drum mower on, which has no conditioner.
