I gave $525 for my repainted, "slightly used" - (hah) model 68. I couldn't substantiate that claim, but the knotters were in good shape and over all there was very little wear in most pieces.

It has it's quirks, but it has been a good baler. It ties everytime so I can't complain.

Call an equipment dealer, as they may be able to give you an idea what is market value. Guess it all depends on how much you want to spend and what you think is fair. Does this guy maintain his other equipment and do you like the guy? You also know the baler's history. That has to factor in.

Let us know what happens.

He wants more than the $500 you said. But I was looking in it over it and around it and cannot find anything wrong with it. It has excellent paint and the decals are all good even. It hasnt sat out, thats very apparent.
Im going to your site and check it out.
And then tomorrow try to chew him down a little more,
thanks for the input

Please no disrespect meant, but unless you are quite familiar with those balers and know what to look for, you will miss things that could be wrong. Especially the knotters - if you don"t witness them in actual operation, you won"t know how good (or bad) they are. I don"t mean to scare you off from buying it as they are very good balers when in good shape and properly adjusted. I bought one on auction in 1994 for $400. More than $500 seems like too much to me.

New Holland 68 is good old baler. Any NH is hard to go wrong with them. What is a great price to you? $300 for a68 would be a good price to me. $500 if its real nice.
If you like I have a rebuild of a NH 68 on my web site. Click the link then the NH 68 link on the left pane of my site.
