JD 7000-Finished Rebuild-Pictures

Not everyone would appreicate this-but I figured people here might.

It has taken me the last 6 weekends but I have finally finished my 7000 planter rebuild. Follow link at the bottom for pictures-scroll down on page to see most of them.

Thanks to everyone here who helped answer my stupid questions and for those who have archived posts here-they saved me more than once.

Hey that looks like you'll get a lot more years outta that machine. Nicely done.

I'm hoping to rebuild a 8R36 7100 into a 8R22 these next two months or so. I'm going out to buy it out in Iowa in the next few weeks. Hopefully, I'll do as nice a job as you. Did you get any technical or repair manuals that helped you out alot? I'm hoping my mods will be limited to moving brackets and cutting down the transmission.

I always try to get the technical and parts manuals. Honestly without vacuum those old planters are simple enought that you can pretty much get by with just the parts manual.

I did 1 row completely to make sure I understood everything-I had one neighbor come down and check tolerances on opener disks, etc. I think a couple people here and on newagtalk.com helped answer a couple questions.

I am a very average mechanic and this was easy so I am sure you will do fine. I would ask around a couple forum for any hidden gotchas from others with that planter in regards to moving the units around and transmission issues.

If wheel brackets are ok only think I can think off off hand is you may have to get a special countershaft or do some special drilling there-should

Good job. The time and money you spend now will pay you back more than you think. The 7000 planters will control their depth and space the seed just as well as the new ones and they are NOT a complicated machine like some of the red people used to claim. Jim

That planter couldn't be simpler-that is why I went with the 7000 vs a 7200-I just didn't want to mess with vacuum, etc. Also I can use my little tractor and not have to worry about hydraulics keeping up or some pto hydraulic pump or something.

That sure looks a lot nicer than the JD 494A planter I have. Just curious, was that planter a conventional (5x7 toolbar) planter, or was it a conservational (7x7 toolbar)? I think you came out allright with the prices, plus you know what has been fixed on yours. Good luck and enjoy.
