Hi all:

I recently purchased a 2 row transport type John Deere planter. My research says it is probably a 246, 247, or 290 planter. Can't find any model or serial number on the frame.

Can someone please tell me how to identify which type of planter I have?

tia

The 246 is a 3 point hitch planter with seed corn boxes, that planter with cotton seed boxes is the 247 planter

I don't know about the 246 or 247 planters but the 290 is a pull behind type that has a clutch lift. There is an optional attachment to make it a hydraulic lift but majority of them use the clutch. If memory serves me correctly the row width could be adjusted from 36" - 42" I have one and it is an excellent little planter. Plates are still readily available for it. Biggest drawback for them now is the wide row widths but with the small acreage I plant with it, it makes no difference.
