Trying to decide on a machinery storage/hay storage
building that will meet my needs. Approx. 40x60
Anyone have experience with the Nylon covered "portable shelters" that are on the market?

I am in the process of putting up a 60x126 trush arch hoop building.(Winkler Canvas) for hay/ equip storage. I know of a farmer who put up one about 10 yrs ago and another this year and has had no problems(permanent cover canvas building) My dad has a small single pipe arch and has problems with snow and wind, but otherwise works well....Jim

For what it is worth, I bought a tent garage from Northern Tool and I have been using it for two years now. The plastic cover is getting stiff and it is hard to work the zipper, but it makes a great shed for storing the old tractors and some equipment. In fact, I am thinking about buying another one soon for other equipment I would like to get out of the weather. For $300 for a 12X20X8, you can't beat them.

TP if I am also concerned about anchoring it securely. What would you suggest to anchor?

What about using Telephone posts 3' in the ground and then cut off at ground level every third post.

That would work, Actually, if I had to do it over again, I'd use a telephone post SUNK as deep as I could get the post hole digger in, and have one every 3 metal hoops apart. I'd probably cut them off chest high and built up to that with rough cut. That way you have something to rest your bales against or in my case it would have made it easier to get closer to the outside walls with cab tractors.

We bought a hoop building from clear span to store trucks and tractors in. For the cost, the SOB works really good, and are considered "Portable" so they are tax exempt where I am. For what they are, they are strong and would be great for hay storage. About the only complaint I have with ours is not putting it on a small wall(Either wood posts, or block) as the wind really raises heck with them if they aren't anchored well, and the factory anchors are flimsy IMO. With that said, I'd buy another one.

One thing I do like, is that they have a clearer piece of vinyl on the top, so it is like being outside inside of it in the day time.

There is a company in McKees Rocks, PA. that gave us a great deal on our quanset building. It's 41X60X16. I called them and asked them if they had any really good deals and the salesman made me an offer we couldn't refuse. Long story short, we got a $10,000.00 building for a little over $6000.00, including shipping, taxes, and all. Can't remember the name of the company at the moment. They do have a website, so a search for quanset buildings in McKees Rocks should bring them up.

Our local Massey dealer has one of those white plastic (nylon) covered buildings, been up for over 5 years now without any problems. Another neighbor of ours has one just like it for hay and equipment, had it for a year now and I guess he really likes it as well.

some folks close to home went with the quanson building leaving the ends open. do jsut what your wanting, equipment and hay. it will cost a little more but you will have alot more to
