I am restoring a 2btm 14in ford plow. Mod# IO337. I plan on using this plow next spring in some very heavy clay soil that has not been turned sence the 1930`s (This stuff is harder than supermans kneecap). Can I use a grade 5 bolt for the sheer pins or do I need something softer. Thanks for the help DKHall

If you use anything softer than grade 5, better go to the field with a bag full. Been there , done that, learned the hard way to use grade 5 in clay.

what are you planning on pulling this plow with? a regular shear bolt will probably hold it because it will be a steady pull. you need to think about having some one pull an aerway or other tool like that through the area first to loosen it up some for you

I will be pulling this plow with a MF 50 (around 35 HP). My dad has a 2290 case with a 5 shank ripper I may pull this over the ground before I start Plowing. I also need to know how tight the piviot bolt on the trip part of the plow needs to be. Thanks to everyone for the help.

If you have a subsoiler , run it through the field in places to help break the clay some . Then go with the plows . I would use grade 3 bolts so not to break something else . Ken
