Since about 1974. Biggest advance in planting technology ever- seed placement was determined by the wheels NEXT to the opener, instead of 2-3 feet behind it. Singulation system was also a big advancement- could throw any size kernal in the seed box and the planter would plant it accurately. No wonder most other companies copied it.

well actually the depth wheels next to the openers was not new to the 7000 series JD... oliver and IH both had that feature years before but then dropped them giving the JD 7000 the distinction of MAKING IT WORK!
