I have a '44 Farmall A model and I bought it off Ebay a while back. Many of you folks were instrumental in helping me get 'Betty' running well and regular-like and my hat's off to y'all for that. I now have another issue and that is with the brush cutter that came with the tractor. It is a drawbar hitch type and is probably only a few years younger than Betty-- perhaps made in the 50's and there are no markings on it, no name or model #'s on it, so I have no idea who made it or when. It is blue and from some of what I have seen in the archives and the photo gallery, it might be a Farmall Brush Cutter, though I can't be certain. The problem or challenge: The bearings in the left side wheel are shot. I already bought replacement bearings, but due to the fact that my local TSC store has almost anything but tractor related parts/equipment these days, I bought some bearings at a local auto parts store that fit the housing and axle. Except that this left a noticeable gap between the wheel housing and the armature for holding the axle, allowing the wheel to wobble or slide, which ruined my bearings pretty quickly. From looking at the other wheel, the bearings have something like a 1/2" or 9/16" axle shaft that pokes out from the outer edge of the bearing to keep it stable in the armature. I also noticed that I have a grease nipple for the wheel bearings on the outer hub of the wheel and I wonder if there is a specific bearing type that would be made for something like that? Any help, info or suggestions would be greatly appreciated in this matter.
