As my grandfather used to say, "It's not what it's worth, it's what it'll fetch!" And these days, stuff seems to be fetching far more than you'd expect... For example, yesterday on eBay an auction closed for a JD sickle anvil (you know the kind, was used to straighten mowing machine fingers, drive out rivets on sickle bar and put new ones in, etc.). According to the seller, this one was found at a JD dealer in a shed and had never been used -- still had parts tag wired on. Opening bid was $5, and before long the bids had shot up to $175. I figured that was the end of it, 'cause who'd spend more than that, even if it *was* NOS? Well, a couple of somebodies came along just before the auction closed, and wouldn't you know it, final bid was $645! Just another case of certain bidders just having to have it, no matter what the cost. (And one of my other grandfather's sayings comes to mind: "Some folks have got more money than brains!") I've seen a lot of parts for the old Fordson tractors (Model F) go through the roof on eBay, too -- manifold setup selling for $589 (eBay # 4584854164 ), fuel tank for $660 (eBay # 7199294231 ), and on it goes. The old law of supply and demand has yet to be amended, so look for these trends to continue. Funny thing, though, whenever I have something to sell, it's just old rusty junk!
