I am a recent tractor owner. I live in a residential neighboorhood and have a long asphalt driveway. I bought a box blade for my tractor and was wondering if I could use it for snow removal. I am concerned that it might damage the asphalt Any advice would be appreciated.

Straight blade is far better than a box blade, but sometimes you got to use what you have.

Box blade works great. I use a JD 950 with front loader and box in rear. Got a pretty long drive and large turn around and I just pull it to the end and raise it. Then push it into a pile. If snow packs in a little, just raise and lower a few times it will fall out. Been using this setup for better than 10 years.

Currently living in South TX but I lived in the Pacific Nothwest for most of my life.

I used a box blade for light snow removal and when the box filled up I lifted the box and reversed to push the snow to the side. It works but can get real tiresome if the snow is deep.

As for the asphalt, you're right about scuffing it up. You can help both the asphalt and wear on your blades if you make some skid plates at the edges and keep your blades off the road surface.

Front snow blades for your 4WD generally have a rubber like blade edge to protect driveway surfaces.

Best thing for deeper snow is a snow thrower in front of a heated cab.

Better still is someone else to do it.

Even better.... they still sell land down here in South Texas. It's so cold right now, we actually had to switch the thermostat over from AC to heat.

Must have gotten down to the 60's last night.

I have used one. As with most rear blades, going backwards is better because you are not driving on top of the snow you are plowing. Mine is curved on both sides. Good for pulling snow away from tight areas. I would rather have an angle blade for long runs. Nothing beats a front blower with a cab.

Probably will not work very well since it will fill up with snow and then you will have trouble.
