I 've got a 6 foot backblade to do my driveway this year ,talking to an old guy who wants a 6 footer and knows where there's a 7 footer ,,,thinking I should make a trade ,,it the metal and everyhting is good ,,any reason I'd want a shorter blade,,my first winter with it ,so not sure what I'm in for ...been grading neigbors drivways to get practiced up ,,bout it

Might help to know what tractor (hp) you are using.....

In general, I'd go for the 7 foot over the 6 foot, all things being equal.

The wider the blade, the farther back the blade should be - you want to be able to swing the blade around forward & rear - some of the cheap ones the frame is too short, & you hit the tractor, can't swing.

Stuff like that to look for. Otherwise, I'd go for the bigger one if you have enough tractor.

I use a 7 ft and I think wider is better for me because I angle the blade to it's maximum when I clear my drive. The wider the blade the bigger area I can clear when the blade is angled. Some blades can be offset manually to extend the blade further to the side to allow you to move the snow further from the edge of the driveway. That's important if you have a long, snowy winter 'cuz repeated clearing with a back blade will make the passible driveway narrower over time since you can't "throw" the snow pushed sideways over the previously bladed snow.

If you can handle the extra weight, it's nice to have a wider blade, Helps in cutting wider than you tire tracks. Nice to have blade wide than the tractor, easyier to keep tractor away from obects when plowing, have fun with which every you decide. send pictures to post if possible.
