Looks great! One thing I have started doing is to use the Super Penetrator spears like most of the OEM are using. They are a stronger steel but yet they will flex some and they will slide in and out of bales easier than a normal mild steel spear. Our round bales weight 1,600-1,800lbs and we had trouble with 2" mild steel spears bending so I tried a Super Penetrator spear and several thousand bales later it is still being used. You can buy the Super Penetrator spears on ebay for around $50 and they are well worth the extra cost.

sometimes!! been very humid here today. most of time they wear longsleeves. they MUST wear safety glasses -- up to them FOLLOWING stern lecture on what to wear as for wearing gloves/jackets. a lot depends on what they are welding -- today they were only welding for about 20 minutes.

I would like to make a suggestion. Before you put it to use, weld tubing into the frame rather than weld the spears in direct. The rest of the fork is great, built like a brick outhouse. The weakest part of the structure is the forks themselves. You will eventually need to straighten or weld together the spears and if you can unbolt them to repair, it will be MUCH easier.

main fork is "minimumly" welded. it being a truck axle it will break before it bends. picture does not show it, but it will be no problem to torch out. lower forks (1 1/4" rod)are just to hold bale stable -- if/when they bend will be easy to straighten on the frame. have did them the way you mention, but using the truck axle it is easier to just weld them in.
