Have a Vermeer 605 F, been thinking about upgrading. There is a 5400 Rebel baler in an upcoming auction. What will the weight of the bale be in comparison to the one the 605F makes? Any Pro�s and Cons for the 5400 rebel?
Anything to look for in the Rebel, I have no idea of the condition of the Baler, it is an estate sale so hopefully it is in good condition
I have an International 1066 tractor, will this be too much HP for the rebel?
What should be the price range of this baler, I been thinking about getting a 605 Super J, or a JD 535, but not found any for sale in my area. I also noticed a JD 566 baler in an auction in few weeks, but figure it will go for more than I want to pay.

The Rebel is a good baler will and could work for you. Are you wanting a smaller bale? The 5400 will be 4' wide and up to 5' diameter. It has hyd. and spring tension similar to your F. It has a 4 bar reel. Your F could have a four or five bar reel. The rebel has 1 1/2 bearings like your F. Bales will weigh around 1,000lbs with the hyd. density maxed out, your F should be more than that. Check the gearbox and condition of the belts. You will have a lot of extra HP but it can work.

no, not really wanting a smaller bale, just not seen too many balers come up in auctions. This one sounds good. I rather stick with the large bales, but if this one looks good and goes cheap I may try to get it. Need to weigh one of my bales, I figure it making 1200 to 1400 pounds but not sure.
I know there will be more balers in the spring, but figured the price will be up on them too.

Before you trade off for a rebel check out this issue of Farm show!!One gentleman says it is the worst mistake he ever made trading off his "c" model for a Rebel!!

Yeah I saw that article also, got me to wondering a little, but I know any type will have a bad one every once in a while. Just wish I knew someone that has ran a Rebel.

I have that very same baler. I pull mine with a 62hp tractor, I think vermeer recommends 40 hp. It will make a 1200lb roll. It doesn't take alot of power to pull it. I like mine so far. I bought mine at an estate sale also. Check the belts and splices for wear. With your size tractor I would be looking for a 5x6 roller. Unless you going to sell the hay, most people here want the 4x5 roll. New Holland and John Deere make nice rollers.
