My Harvey corn sheller died today. Belted to the F-20, shelling out some old ear corn. Cleaning fan shaft broke just inside the cage. Fan and housing damaged beyond repair. I don"t feel like fabricating anything, just not worth the effort for that thing. Into the scrap truck it goes. :(

Tim ; This fall, we used a neighbours pto drive Haban which I think was also made in Racine, it worked quite well. The weak point on those machine is the B series belt which drives everything - if you didn't tighten it a bit every 2nd load of shelled corn, all of a sudden the machine was plugged. We started out shelling with my JD #43 pto sheller, which I thought would do the job, but it kept plugging up in the blower. I think I might buy a good used 2 row New Idea picker sheller for next year, they are pretty cheap in my area. Then, I could just run my elevator out of the crib into the elevator that takes the cobs from the snapping rolls. I would disconnect the snapper mechanism, because it wouldn't need to run. Also if some year I had too much to fit in the cribs, I could use it to finish off, if I didn't my JD 105 with a corn head yet that a friend thinks he wants to sell.

Never heard of that brand. Here in souhen MN, 95% are MM shellers, with an occational JD thrown in.

Tim,

My sympathies on the death of your sheller. I'm not familiar with a Harvey, but I'd guess it must have been a good one if it lasted this long. How old was/is it?

It is a Harvey Manufacturing sheller, made in Racine, Wisconsin. Probably is about 55 years of age(it was already old when it came here!). Good news is, it is off the junk pile again. I actually found a useable fan assembly for it on an old sheller in somebody else"s scrap pile.
