I would like some thoughts as to the value of a 273. One to be auctioned tomorrow looks to be ok. It has been under a shed, sheet metal straight with some minimal rusty places. It looks like it could have been used this year, but I am not sure. I have a 435 IH that I am thinking of replacing. Thanks for your opinions.

I got mine a couple of years ago for $800 and sounds like the same condition. Wouldn't tie when I got it, made adjustments works great now. Around here I've seen them anywhere from $500 to $2500 (JD dealer).

Jim-Igot my 273 last spring from a dealer for $1000. It ties good and makes a nice bale. I would easily spend that money again on it.

It sold today for $1000.I thought it was going to go for less, but a family member began to bid just as the others had finished bidding. I had learned to watch this person because of his previous actions. He had bought the rake and other stuff earlier and would only begin to bid when the item was near the selling price. When other bidders saw him bid, they would just quit. He had shown that he would keep going no matter what something that he wanted would bring.

I made out. The neighbor had two 273's - one he used all the time and a backup. The backup had set for 4-5 years without being used, so last summer we brought it out of the shed, tinkered with it, replaced some parts, and went to bale straw. He wanted to sell it, since he is gonna quit baling. When I asked how much, he told me to pay for the parts (came out to about $75) and I can have it! He even said it could stay in his shed, since I don't have a place out of the weather for it. This man has given me a LOT of help, advice, and equipment over time - don't know what I'd do with out him!
