I posted last week about a running gear that I couldn't get extended. Well I examined it again and the bolt holes were true, no set screw etc, I soaked it with oil for days and finally went for the hot wrench. I heated the reach pipes around the ends and each bolt hole and hit the pipes with a hammer, soaked with oil overnight and finally I slid the back half of the gear off the reach. The inner pipe hadn't budged so I blew a half inch hole through top and bottom, bolted a clevis to the pipe and hauled it out to the walnut tree, hooked the tractor on and pulled it out. I took the grinder and cleaned the inner pipe, slathered it with oil and it slid back in easily, I set the reach and bolted the collar back through the pipes..what an ordeal it was. then I thought I better check the wheel bearings before I sand and paint the gear...$58 later ( one wheel)I had the hubs greased...My $100 gear is now $158 + about $20 worth of oxygen-propane...Thanks for all the suggestions...Mike in Exeter Ontario
