Planter, cultivator, & corn head need to all match. Common row spacing was 42, 40, 38 inch because that is how wide a horse is. 36 got some notice too. 30 inch turns out to be far better for yield when you don't have to worry about fitting a horse in the row. And it works well with different wheel spacings on the tractors & implements, nice easy number, you can straddle 2, 3, or 4 rows easily. In beet country 22 inch is popular, it's the right size for beets & beet equipment. Turns out it worked well for corn too. We kinda figured out narrower rows are better, so 20 inch and 15 inch is the 'new' thing starting to show up. Many older planters cannot be spaced that close together, something will hit & not fit. You will be going it alone if you want 24 inch, that never was a common row spacing. Many types of planters can be slid together or apart for different row spacings, but I'd stick with 30 inch, that's what is common. I understand you won't be harvesting it, so not a big deal I suppose. --->Paul
