I stopped by a guy's place on Friday. Offered me a IH 2M-HD mounted picker for free (only has picked 500 total acres) along with a parts IH 2-MH picker, and lock, stock and barrel picker parts which he doesn't need anymore. Took the deal. Was happy he didn't have to scrap them. "Everything is going to be sold, given away, or scrapped..." he was telling me about a conversation he had with his brother. I jumped at an IH 76 combine, not a dent or scratch on it, complete, with a brand new and I mean brand new canvas. He had it rolled up in a room in the upstairs of his shed, and unveiled it to me. Told me the canvas costed him between 200-250 bucks, and would give me the combine for 200. Sure. Why not? Then he had an IH 46 baler, ol beast, but I thought you know I'm getting a heck of a set up for my Super M, why not? 50 bucks and let it go. Complete, little rusty, but mine. :) Am I nuts? I look at it this way: I walked away with 3 working implements and a parts implement, all 50's-60's era, for 250. I couldn't turn it down. Am I nuts? I know I'm addicted to red farm equipment, but am I nuts? Thanks for your moral support.

Nope, just real lucky.............. in reply to Tim Malin, 11-08-2004 10:07:04
these old combines and balers may never be worth much, money wise, but if you enjoy fooling with them as much as I do, and can get a little work done to boot, you are in super good shape.

To put things in perspective, if you take a family of 4 to a Dallas Cowboys game, you"re gonna blow 200 bucks on tickets, parking, pointless brick a brac, and snacks for the privilage of fighting traffic for a couple of hours in and out to watch a herd of self indulgent millionaires playing a kids game in front thousands of screeching babboons.

You have invested wisely, Grasshopper..... ...

Only $200 for a family of 4? Thats' not bad. I'd rather have the old implements though and watch the thousands of screeching baboons on tv. (that's a great analogy Rev!!!!, you didnt mean just Cowboy fans did you?, no, I think it's a national phenomenon :) ). I never get lucky and find stuff like that, I either get ripped off or told to get lost. I guess I dont have a good set of communication skills.
