I plan on planting soybeans next spring on 10 acres.
I have an old pull type combine with a Scour Kleen. I plan to plant a variety where I will have the option of saving seeds.
Two questions.
Will the Scour Kleen clean the seeds well enough to be used for planting without further cleaning.

Second, I am having trouble finding a variety that is not Roundup Ready and protected by patents. Where should I go to seek old time "save your own seed" type soybean seed?

Ask for either Hitchens or Hutchens (can't remember which), or just ask for a good type of soybean seed for hay/forage use. If you row crop them you can get a good old time yeild, but if you broadcast them they won't put on as many pods.

the scour clean should do just fine.

You will find varying opinions on this. Some say all seed today is protected under various laws & agreements, and you can't save any.

I will agree to some extent on _selling_ any seed.

However, for your own use, in most areas you can save the conventional beans - according to most people.

You may see the shade of grey you wish in the above. :)

Conventionals are out there, just have to look. Places like Albert Lea Seed House sell several types, from organic food grade to rot resistent types. They are on the web, but don'y know where you live.

Your scour clean will probably clean them up about good enough. Going through a $20 old Clipper mill will make them even better, but would not have to be for just 15 bu.
