What kind of horsepower does it take to run and pull one of the smaller, pull combines? A PTO powered one, like a JD 30, for example.

I pulled my #30 this summer with a 1720 New Holland 4wd compact tractor. Its about 25 hp. I would not recomend going lower than that. It did fine, but i was going slow and on flat ground.

a strong 35 hp with governor set tight and live pto
50 or more hp makes life easier on you

Let me put it this way.Dad pulled a PTO driven Massey Clipper for years with a FARMALL REGULAR.He got along fine with it.Now I don't know how much horsepower a Regular had but I seriously doubt it had 35 horsepower.I'll go ask the red guys.
