I'm 19 years old. my brother and i are looking to get into farming. we're planning to buy some beef animals this spring and would like to put up two bunk silo's one of corn silage and one of hay silage. I've got an old international 15 with a pick up head and a corn head, i've had good luck with corn but haven't had a chance to try it on hay. I'll probably run it with an International 560d. i was wondering if it will do what i want or should i go buy a new holland 717? i don't want to fight this thing all summer

A 717 won't be much better. If you do upgrade, go with a chopper that has a recutter screen, not the cut-and-throw style, which is what the 717 is. Most silos around here are uprights. Can you make bunker silage out of hay? I've only ever seen it done with corn.

You should do just fine with the 15. We used one for years for chopping corn, haylage, sudax, and used it for years for daily green chopping until we got a JD 16-A for that. Ran it at different times with an H, acouple of M's, Super M and a Super W-6. I would be using it yet but the flex coupling on the gear box is broken and they are hard to find and expensive if you do.
