I have been keeping up with these boards since 1999 I have had a lot of help on my tractor Farmall 404 a guy named Harold H on the Farmall board was a great help I will e-mail him a picture when I paint it in a couple of months if I can get his e-mail address I owned a couple of MF combine several years ago but I got out of farming all together for a few years I am trying to get back in I have several acres of wheat planted this winter I have purchased a set JD 71 10 row planters on a 1440 notill tool bar for beans next summer I have been looking at several combine over the past several months Gleaner F,JD 4400,NH 1500,NH TR-70 Noboby on this board had much to say I will say I will never have another MF had 510,550 neither were any good. I have purchased a 1977 NH TR-70 from original owners I have seen more people on this board talk down the TR-70 than anywhere else the guys I bought it from have had problems but have over come these problems. The Ford moter blew the first year NH replaced. The rear wheels centers broke out they replaced with custom half inch centered wheels Grain tank loading auger gear box went bad several times last time it was rebuilt 15 years ago they drilled and tapped in a grease fitting in the drain plug 10 shots a year with the grease gun it has give no more trouble. the NH flex head was'nt that great in beans they put on a biush adapter and a JD 216 flex head along with header driven hydro pump for the reel This combine has been mantained through the years new cab kit last year A/C swapped over to 134A this has been no hobby combine these guys made a living with it was replaced this season because of a little more land quit bashing my combine

I gotta tell you the truth. I've owned three new combines, and one used one, and I bought the TR-70 new in 1979. It was the worst machinery investment I ever made. The big problem can be summed up in one word; ROCKS. No rocks, no problem but, even with small rocks it wrecked that machine. I have heard that they improved their rock protection, if so, it might not be so bad, but I'd never buy another one for any price.

You guys must not have stone trap on that TR 70. Cuz if you did we wouldnt be writing this. No offence, but if you had a stone trap and were awake when you were driveing you would have heard it as it got to the throat and been able to disenage the thresher. The stone trap should have handled the rock but if it didnt the thresher would be slowing down.

I worked for New Holland in the early/mid 80's. The amount of experience I had with the TR-70 was limited. I do know that if they were given half ways maintenance that they would work well, but if neglected they would become a nightmare and a half. You may want to check with your local dealer. I know that there were a few updates by NH that weren't completed on all of the TR-70's. If they are still available I would look into getting them and putting them in. The concaves and rotors could really wreak havoc (on any TR model) if they weren't set up right.

I didn't see anything about a TR70 here. I want to buy my ex a tractor. I am hoping it will go over well. I deeply love him and want to show it even though he has moved on. I read these boards because he loved to do so and introduced me to them(see him here often) and there is some great advice about what is worth the money and what is not. I don't see much downtalk on things without proper causation. Dunno, seems like someone just got on your badside. Guess it happens anywhere.
