Do any manufactures still build any smaller combines in the size of a 715 IH,310MF or a 4400 JD?

All the big companies only build combines capable of 8 row heads on up. The smaller combines just aren't enough cheaper to build and there is very little demand for them so they stick to the bigger models.

Heck, there isn't that much demand for big combines..... They kinda hit their peak in size/performance here, and sales have been way off the past 5 years. 8-12 row/ 30' header is the size that sells. With smaller farms going out of business, there are plenty of old small combines, couldn't sell a new one - it would cost $100,000 anyhow - same number of parts & bearings and all, so really wouldn't be much cheaper than the big machines, only smaller engine & smaller parts - but not enough to cut the price in half even.

Only the specialty machines used for combining test plots, which cost a great deal of money.

I hear of a few imports, but they cost very much as well - when you can get any of the machines you mention for $1000 and have parts galore.....

What's a 310 Massey? Never heard of that model, only 300's.

Small is a relative term. I'd look at cost per acre. I run 55's and 65's and I know my combining costs are a small fraction of my neighbors. I don't take off that much crop but I see a lot of operators with more combine(s) than they need. Most people seem to be in such a rush these days. This year a lot were done up here in early September and we've had a over a month of good weather since. I don't imagine weather is a concern your way. I guess what I'm saying is consider life in the slow lane, I enjoy being there. Your older Deeres will likely run a long time yet. One of my 55's turns 50 next year and it still gets the job done.
