Looking for a place to go to find out information on a model 55 combine with a 355 corn head. I can't seem to find anything like what allis has. Looking for parts book and a manual or just a place to ask questions. Thanks Marlin

I can't help you with corn headers but my yard is beginning to sprout 55/65 combines. I've got half a dozen of them here and a couple more that haven't found their way home yet. The oldest is a '54 #55 roundback with a Hercules six cylinder engine- runs like the day it was made. I used it up until last year. The newest is a '66 #55 217 c.i. gas that's barely broken in. It's all original, right down to the reel slats! I used it to straight cut 40 acres of Fall Rye a couple of weeks ago-ran great. I have a couple of JD parts and operator manuals. E-mail me if there's something I might be able to help you with.

Rob My uncle owns the model 55 with a 335 corn head. If you have extra parts I would like to have your email address or phone number if possible. The one he has is a 1966. I wish I knew you had a manual because he ordered one the other day. Can you tell me where you live. I live in Wautoma Wi. Thanks Marlin.

There are different manuals depending on the serial number (year made) and production changes. I don't have them all and I'm waiting on a parts book from JD for the latest one - they're not cheap (not that much is from JD) but I like to have them. My e-mail address will show if you click on my name (underlined in blue) at the top of the post.

What do you need to Know? I believe your corn head is a 335 not a 355 as John Deere never made a 355 corn head.

I believe you are right it is a 335. We were wondering what year it could of been made. The serial number on the combine shows it to be a 1966 machine. Also where can I find out information on parts and part numbers. I was all over john deere combine .com and can't find anything out for instance where to get a starter and find out how much they run. I was looking for a forum like allis has on the home page. Thanks Marlin

Not enough motor for a 335 CH unless you go really slow. Not sure about a starter. Parts are pretty nonexistant fot these machines other than salvage yards.

Ment to say if it is a 66 it is a 217 motor. In 67 they went to a 303

I dont think they ( John Deere ) made corn heads before 1974. Starting with s/n 100001, 1975 starting with s/n 150001, 1976 with s/n 200001, 1977 with s/n 250001. They went with that order up until 1984. Then they changed the numbering system after that.If you find the tag on the corn head. You should be able too figure out the year if it was built before 1984. Or, just post the s/n and I'll look it up.

I think it was 1955 when JD came out with the No 10 corn attachment for the 45. Had to been one of the first if not the first successful corn header.

I stand corrected. You are right. After a little more digging, I found alot of JD corn heads built before 1974. The oldest ones being built starting in 1954 and include models 10, 210, 235 & 313. All of which were built until 1969. How's that go ? Open mouth, insert foot.

Gleaner had the first in the '30s for a pull-type, but since it took the whole plant into the combine, it wasn't successful. Deere's #10 was for the 45 and 55 was the first corn head that snapped just the ears to be successful. Then everybody else had to make a corn head for their SP combines, too.
