I am having problems diagnosing a problem with my swather. It is a Ford gas engine and we have replace the fuel filter and a hose that has seem to been collapsing. However, after running it for an hour or so it just shuts down like it is not getting any fuel.
I have suggested to the dealer that we do a carb kit but I cannot think of what else it might be.
Any thoughts or ideas out there.

Thanks,

Mark

I was having similar problems with my 135 Massey last year, turned out to be the points and condenser. Let me make this suggestion to ya. Do an entire ignition tune up, points, condenser, plug wires, plugs, and coil. I bet that will cure your problems but this is only a suggestion. My other thoughts is that Ford name is messing things up???? I know I'll never own another product that has that FixOrRepairDaily name on it. Just my experience with ford anyhow.

The swather ran that night when things cooled down a bit. It runs forever when it is cool but not when hot.
I thought of vapor lock and someone here suggested that I put in an electric fuel pump.
The fuel line comes from the tank right over the top of the manifold and engine and could get very hot causing this non leaded fuel to go to gas.
I will probably replace coil anyway since this is a 20 yr. old unit.

Thanks all for your help.
BTW this is a Ford 250 engine with 59 HP.

Regards,

Mark

Mark, You didn,t give much to go on, the vented gas cap is a good suggestion. Try blowing air through the vents in the gas cap. Another thought, do you have a goob blue spakk after this happens? Could be your coil, it takes about an hour to heat up the tar like insulation, then they start to lose the strength of their spark. HTH ATW/WA

Can't take credit for this, 'cause it was mentioned earlier by someone else on a discussion board, but I will mention it. Are you sure you have the right type gas cap? If it's supposed to be vented and it is not, air may not be able to replace the emptying fuel and could cause a vacuum to occur, which would stop the flow of fuel from the tank. Or, maybe something has stopped up the vent opening like mud-dabbers, etc.!
