I just picked up my "New" JD4400 last weekend and managed to drive it home 4 miles with the parking brake on. I smelled some burning but thought maybe it was just a drive belt slipping and I was almost home.

End result is the parking brakes are TOAST-useless. The regular brakes work ok if I pump them a couple times first.

I am sure I am in need of new pads at the least.

Has anyone ever but brakes on a 4400? It it pretty tough?

One other thing that has me a little worried. It will go into 1st and 2nd gear fine but will not go into 3rd or 4th until I have driven it a couple hundred yards in 1st or 2nd. I checked the linkage and nothing funky there-not hitting the sides in the cab or anything. Any thoughts?
