I took these pictures a week ago beside Hwy 4 in western Kansas. They are a SP-12 Case and a 21-A Massey combines that are being farmed around in the Arnold,KS area.

If I lived out there I'd have a 100 combines by now.

Ande, Scrap is cheaper in this part of the country.Towns and people are few and far between in western Kansas so these two combines may last awhile out there before the junker gets them.I just wish they werent so far away.I could sure use that SP-12 Case for parts.

Sure looks like some wide open country out there, sort of like where I grew up in North Dakota, except I think Kansas must be flatter in general.

Anyone have an idea of what a typical operation runs in acreage in that part of the wheat belt?

A very large operation in North Dakota, that my deceased brother used to work for, had 12,000 acres a few years ago.

Ron, That area of Kansas is pretty flat but not that far away its pretty rolly in places. On west of there it really gets flat.

A typical wheat farm out there is 3-6,000 acres.I bought a 123 McCormick combine 10 miles from where the 21-A MH and SP-12 Case are at.This man and his wife used to farm 3000 acres before his health went bad.He said you can easily rent all the ground that you want.

They have had lots of poor crops out there in the 2000's due to drought.2007 was the best crop in years. The wheat looks real good this year. If the weather is decent I will be back out there Friday and Saturday.

Hey 1206, i think you are going to lose the bet on those old case combines, seems like you have been finding a lot of them, how many do you have registered as existing so far?

Right now I have (32) SP-12 Cases on my list counting parts combines. One of these got junked last fall in Texas.I have serial numbers for (18) of them and have pictures for several of them.

We have less than 9 years to come up with (68) more.I wonder if they are out there?

Its looking like SP-12's are more common than 120's and 150's.You never see any of them.I'm running a want ad this week in HPJ to see what I can find for old Case combines.

I believe that the SP-9 must be the rarest of all Case SP combines.
