I tried implement alley but didn't get much help. I found a MF 640 corn planter for sale that is pretty rough but looks like everything is there. I wanted to hear from anyone who is still using one. Do they work good. I have never seen this particular style before with the air fan setup. The planter is cheap and I only have 40 acres to work so I thought it might work out. Any advice or common problems with these would be a big help.

As far as I know the 640 and the 770 are the same planter. They were normally a full till planter in other words the frame was light and wasn't built for no-till. Agco should still support the parts $$$$$ make sure the seller has plenty of seed discs for it my experience with the air planter is it is very picky about seed shape normally not good for ungraded seed as far as flats vs rounds it seemed to tolerate a little size variance. If it has a working seed monitor with pop counter make sure to use tinted seed discs or the sunlight will drive it crazy. If it is a 4 row you should have two fans make sure they work and hoses are in good shape and wiring is ok. I think that 77 unit drives itself but it's been too long ago can't remember. Should work good for 40 acres.Does it have dry or liquid fertilizer or any? If it's liquid it probably has the old John (What's his name?) pump.I only sold one of the 770's the guy hasn't come back to haunt me that I know of he passed away several years ago. My two cents CT

If you"re just looking to buy now, better to stick with a brand that still exists, has parts, and dealer support. Will mean more, ten years from now. Lots of thirty year old red and green planters around very reasonable, and parts/support will survive better.
