Before I go and shell out money to the local Gleaner dealer to buy walker the screens for doing corn with my K, I wanted to see if anyone has a set they would part with. Or, if anyone knows of a scrap yard that has a set. Thanks!

If you don't want to invest the money for the "regulation" parts perhaps you could get some welded wire (probably around 1/2" mesh) and place pieces of this over your walkers. I have seen this done on older combines with success. And it doesn't cost much, either. Mike

I have had a K2 and an F2, both with walker screens. They still get plenty of cobs stuck in them-just smaller pieces! I'm ready for a combine without walkers! Don't know where you are, but Spallinger combine in Ohio is a good source.

If you have the screens, and they plug up- the issue is at the cylinder. Either speed or concave clearance. Might need to install the filler bars to keep the cobs whole. You are making little bitty pieces out of the cobs. Walker screens take care of that. And they make combining FUN!

Seems like I have tried everything. Always run filler bars. Cyl. is raised about all the way up. Running on the slow end of the 20 inch pulley(About 400-450rpm). The walkers never plug. I just get tired of digging and scratching myself up as I poke every piece of cob out of the walker screens when I switch over to small grain.

I would expect the filler bars to let you keep the cobs whole, and they should not be plugging the screened walkers. How about the forward/rearward setting of the walkers? Have you tried moving them- which would affect how much goes on the walkers vs. the chaffer? I normally run the concave around 5/8-3/4 inch clearance, never could get by with more than that. Have you ever leveled the cylinder, and actually compared the real setting with what the gauge shows? ie- set it at zero, and physically measure the distance within the cylinder? F2 did not have the walker screens, and they did plug occasionally, but my current M2 has the screens and it works much better. Had the 16 inch pulley, so lowest available cyl speed was a bit over 500. If cobs are wet and rubbery, it"s a b no matter what you try, but that"s a seasonal, not continuous thing.

Cyl. is absolutely set to the concaves, then the guages are set. I haven't tried moving the walkers. I've wondered if it's the great central NY state weather. All you can count on here is inconsistency!
