So I'm going to post this anyway even though for the life of me I can't get the pictures to show up the size I want.
Anyway two years ago I wish I would have known where all these bleeding hearts were for combines. I bought a Deere 4400 gas from an old guy, complete with heads and blown motor, to run along our 6600. The thing only had 2900 hours on the ticker, came with a brand new set or rasp bars, a new top sieve, new elevator chains, and had all new tires - they had less than 50 acres on them and had never touched the road. It looked great. I later found out it was the 11th one built. Then along came a bigger better diesel combine that wasn't green so I thought I had to have that one also. I didn't need two so I fixed the 4400 (new crank, bearings, rings, seals and installed all other new parts) and it ran like new. I put it out for sale for what I had into it $1750 and thought it would go. Three months later I consigned it at a local dealer for $1500, still no luck. When I called the salvage yard he came out and said he would give me $1700 and pick it up, but I didn't want to scrap the little thing. It had at least a thousand hours left in it. Then I decided someone would want it, so I took it to the local consignment auction in the fall along with the heads. They had that thing advertised for 2 months prior, had pictures of it on almost every flier. I was certain I was going to make a killing or at least break even. Wrong. The same scrap yard that offered me the $1700 bought it for $1000, drove it on their trailer and laughed. Here are some pictures for the ad that I took. third party image third party image

Man if that had been close enough to drive home or could have afforded a hauler. I'm not much on John deere but If that combine looked inside like it looked outside then someone must have been crazy to pass that up . At least a great backup for bean harvest.Seemas around here everyone wants to be bigtime or sell it for houses. You tried. One guy i know off bought an old machinery lot with dozens of old manure spreaders and implements and everybody was willing to buy stuff from him. He didnt want to bother with all these . So he had his helpers load it up into dumpster after dumpster. Some spreaders were i working condition and some were almost new like horse drawn. I like chinese food but hope they choke on the scrap .! Surprised Their not stealing good equipemnt or unguarded equipment to scrap. They are getting them for stealing scrap from unihabited houses, unsecured air conditioners, and bronze flower vases from cemetaries.!

OK now I have this picture thing figured out.
Yeah I tried what I could, if we had enough barn space and a use for it it could have stayed. The guy that bought it didn't straight up scrap it, it was Worthington Ag Parts that bought it. It got spread to all corners of the country and what was left got crushed and scrapped.

Very nice looking 4400.You did what you could to save it but a guy just cant keep everything..I have tractors sitting outdoors for lack of shed space.

Gas combines arent much in demand these days but it might have sold here in fescue country as older-cheaper-smaller combines are still being used.I once had a neighbor that had a 6600 JD gas but he only kept it for one year.A new 4400 diesel replaced it.

There just arent enough combine collectors around to save them all.

Thats terrible. It sounds like you really tried. It would"ve been great for a guy with 200 acres or so. With prices up you"re seeing some small guys getting involved again. At least you did your part. I assume that they bought it to salvage parts? Not for scrap?
