So, I was wondering how many of the older combines are still in use and what do you use them for. I know old is a relative term but basically anything that doesn't have GPS or Combine-Star added onto it.
I know Nathan said he still uses a 45,95 and 105 on 200+ acres of wheat. Which by the way Nathan how old do I sound? I'm only 24.
Anyway My machine, 1980 New Holland TR70, RWA, Cat engine, Spec Rotors - this year used on wheat 200 acres, corn 230acres, soybeans 180acres and this year maybe oats 20 acres depending on if it gets cut for hay or not. Plus whatever custom work I can pick up.

I helped restore a JD #25 and converted it from a sacker to a grain bin last year. We harvested 390 bushels of Oats with a few minor problems. Oats are now growing, planning another harvest in June. This is my retirement fun.

'77 NH 1400 on corn and oats- usually about 40-50 acres of corn and 60-70 acres of oats. Some small custom jobs now and then. (5 acres of barley last fall) Have done beans (25 acres last fall), but won't any more, as the head is so poor at it, and break too many sickles. Sold a 985 NH when I bought this one- to the best of my knowledge, it's still being used.

That is one nice looking 55. Paired up with the Dodge it looks pretty cool. It's amazing how many more shields and guards the square backs had compared to the round back combines.
No offense taken Ray, everyone has their opinions on equipment, and I know the TR isn't the best machine out there, it was a step up over the 6600 in my opinion, especially for the price. The next one I'm dreaming of is a Case 1660 or 1666. I've never run a Gleaner machine, they aren't real popular around here, never had dealer support.

1981 Gleaner N5. used to have a 1980 NewHolland TR70 used it for quite a few years, corn got so cheap that we were better off buying it than growing it ourselves so combine was sold, boy how things come around full circle. personally the N5 is much more machine than the TR70. ray

I custom cut 50+ acres of wheat last summer, and this year I have my own wheat too. I plan on using it until I get up to 160-200 acres, then keep it as a backup for probably a 6620 or 7720.

Nice pictures! The 55 looks to be in great shape. I really like the old Dodge grain truck. What year is that truck?

Thanks, I borrowed the truck from a neighbor. I'm not sure on the year seems like it's late 60's or early 70's. He told me, but I've forgotten it since then. It is a nice old truck, steel bed, power up and down. I wouldn't mind owning it.

I'm using 2 Case 660's to harvest corn, soybeans, and wheat on a 300 acre farm. I used to have a John Deere 45 but sold that one to someone else.
