Heres some my want ads have found.

1 Always shedded (except for 6 months) JD 40 with cab and 10 ft header.Owned for most of its life by a JD dealer and only cut fescue seed.Needs a fuel pump.Current owner says its the lowest acre 40 JD in existence and is like new.Price $1200.Owner didnt know if it was a RB or SB as its in a shed on his farm.Its 120 miles away.

2 Always shedded JD 40 SB with 10 ft head and no cab.Has rice tires.Hasnt ran in a few years and paint is decent.Price around $750?Its 100 miles away.

3 Always shedded 40 JD RB with 205 corn head.Decent faded paint on both.10 ft grain head has sat out for years and needs paint.Motor got stuck and he has the head off it with a new valve job.He has new sleeves and pistons for it.Its 60 miles away.Owner doesnt know what its worth and says make an offer above scrap price.

4 My brother just called to tell of an always shedded 40 JD located 25 miles west of me.

5 Another guy 150 miles away called and has an always shedded 40 JD with both heads that hasnt been used in years.He cant bare to part with it right now.

6 Another guy 80 miles away called to visit and says he uses a 40 JD on 50 acres of beans every year.

40's were quite popular in this area so lots have survived.I can remember 3 neighbors having 40's in the 1960's.

One neighbor still uses a 40 to cut fescue seed.

Blaine;
Is a Model 40 just like a 45, but smaller? What years were they produced? I don't ever remember seeing one here in SE Nebr.
John

John, They were smaller than a 45 and were built from 1960-65.They were quite popular here on the smaller farms.A neighbor one mile south bought a new one in 1960.

I have a sb '64 40 with a 10' head and corn head, don't use it much anymore other than to run a little oats. Here in east central Indiana, there seemed to be quite a few around, still about 5 or 6 in the county in the 1990's. Gave $450 for it back in 1988.

Superpicker, let me know if you find any for sale around you or if you ever decide to get rid of yours. I am in Dearborn Co. and have a 40RB with 10' head. I would like to find a squareback and cornhead in the IN/KY/OH region.

Youd better make a beeline over to that shedded 40 JD combine for $250 as thats under scrap price.Even if you dont want it theres money to be made as people want 40's since they are easy to haul and dont take up alot of shed room.

A 205 corn head fits the 40's and they are in demand.

I've had several people just call just to visit about old combines.Some wonder why I'm buying old combines.
