Just looking at the nice pictures of old combines amazes me.Around here ther are starting to be quite a few restored tractors but you never see a restored combine. You still see alot of older combines still in use,the odd 300 massey,a few 410's,510's,lots of 750's.For Deere's,there are quite a few 6601's on the go,6600's,7700's,even the odd 4400.There are a few new Deere's around, but most farms are small acerage and just won't cashflow a quarter of a million dollar plus machine for several hundred acres. We are happy as all outdoors with the 550 we have for our 150 acres.Restoring old ones just seems odd to people out here when it wasn't that many years ago since they were still used.Lots of good parts lying around here for anyone looking for 60's and 70's Deere's and Massey's.Just love the pics.pd.

I have a John Deere #7 i'm planning to restore. It came from North Dakota and is in excellent shape. I got started collecting combines on here. A fellow in Texas offered a Caterpillar#36 free to anyone who would take it. Well that got the ball rolling. As of right now I have the #7 and a 25 john deere, a G-4, a john deere threshing machine, a john deere grain binder, and oliver stationary baler. I still have to bring the caterpillar 36 home from Texas. I haul tractors and equiment all over the midwest from texas to montanta so I get the chance to look for old combines. And I will say that western Oklahoma western Kansas western Nebraska and western North and South dakota are just loaded with old combines. Old combines can usely be bought alot cheaper than old tractors. Everybody collects old tractors and knows what there worth.
Now I'm from Pennsalvania and old combine like G-4's and #7's wheren't used around here, most people don't even know what they are. So if you have the means to find, haul home and restore and old combine I'd say go for it. Somebody has a restored John Deere 11A on the photo adds and they want 7,000 dollars for it. What will interesting is to see if they actully can get that much for it.

You are correct in the areas that still have lots of old combines.Montana,Alberta, and Saskatchewan seem to be full of them too.We still have a few years before the junkers get them all.

It sounds like you have a nice collection in the making.PA is sure a long haul for you.

I saw it and dont think he will sell that 11-A JD for that kind of money.

Theres lots of older machines still in use around here for fescue seed harvest,A neighbor has a 300 MF diesel that he still uses.Other neighbors have a 760 MF,another has a 40 JD,another has an E Gleaner, another has a 4400 JD.Another guy I knew made a small fortune cutting fescue with an old 45 JD that he gave $450 for.

I have never seen anyone paint up an old combine around here yet but I'm going to try and redo a 123 McCormick in memory of my late Dad (1908-1993) as his first SP was a 123.

That sounds like a wonderful idea for a memorial for your Dad.I guess it just hasn't been done here yet because there is alot more metal to restore and much more moving parts than a simple little tractor. And when it is finished, takes alot bigger shed too lol.
