The original subject was "Re: Roll CallHow Often Do You Visit Here?".

I have been visiting this site off and on for around 2 years! I love reading all your stories and looking at the pics. I myself am 35, the son of a 2nd gen. farmer. I have loved growing up on the farm, but at an early age i knew it would never fall down to me because of the small size of the operation and the division even more of the land to the uncle and aunt that didn';t stay on the farm. I enjoy playing farmer when i help my old man during planting and harvest. We have a 78 715 with german diesel and 3 old gasser 715's for parts 2 are pretty well stripped and we are in the process of cutting them up for scrap. Not sure how much longer my dad will continue because of increasing prices of just about every aspect of farming plus the small guy is becoming a thing of the past making way for all the Walker's! and other corperate farmers. I am just glad my sons have had the experience of riding the old combine with grandpa. anyway hi to all and i will keep enjoying the site. wes

My first was a old gleaner e cutting soybeans when i was 11. my dad ran the gleaner f in the same field to watch me. as for tractors it was a 2510 john deere loader when i was 5. i was to drive it across the field to another lime pile. i remember that day like it was yesterday. heck it was the summer before i started kintergarden. lol kinda makes me wish that my mom took pictures then

I can tell you never ran a 55 John Deere. I'm not a JD man but a 55 was bullit proof. My father never pushed a combine, didn't want to throw anything out the back. 40 acres at 35 bushels was a good day for us and better than most. We raised a lot of Early Preimium in those days and it made LOTS of straw. The last 3 years we ran just the 55 it never stopped to unload grain, even the last binfull was dumped going out of the field.

Those combines are the 2007 Major County Hist. Society Threshing Bee at Fairview, Oklahoma. The Oliver belongs to the society and the JD belongs to the Oklahoma John Deere 2 Cylinder Club. A former club member owned the John Deere 40. I photographed these machines and just fascinated with old tractors and combines.

HeHE, i checked back and saw i didn't say what it was. geez. It's a shocker attatchment for a grain binder. Mccormick Deering. These are really scarce, as they didn't actually work out as good as they should have. Manufactured in the early 20's, there were 2 models, and John Deere actually experimanted with one too but it never made production. International sold some, but they didn't work well on side hills. This one came from north of junction city, where it is hilly. It would stack bundles flat until they tripped the knotter and then that big needle would tie twine around the whole deal and tip it off setting upright in a shock. LOL. Russ Hamm

Keep telling yourself the lie that you're preserving history by destroying old combines, and perhaps you'll finally believe it, but I doubt that anyone else will. Fine, do what you want, but to come here on a site where most people are concerned with preserving combines and other machinery, just to brag on and promote your event, is simply childish, since it's obvious that you're doing it just to irritate people. And since your opinion is no better than mine, yes, I still think people who participate in, or watch combine demo derbys are a bunch of slack-jawed yokels with two-digit IQ's.

Not to pick nits, but it could also be a "G" with a serial number between 23000 and 25999. They were identical to the "GM" in almost all respects, and you couldn't tell the difference from this photograph, which is neat, and thank you, 1206SWMO for posting it.

...when some people get old, they tend to lose it. I heard a shrink say that some people feel that when they are retired, no longer have children at the home, will look for something to do even if it's silly or nonsensical. That way, according tp the shrink, in their mind, they're still doing something, however retarded. This guy planting the combines fits the bill. I'll give you two more examples I know about. My grandpa retires from farming and after a few years suddenly decides to cut down every single tree in the entire yard, pecans, sycamores and all! Absolutely no reason to do it. Another retired farmer has beautiful place inside pecan orchard. Decides suddenly that three largers trees in the yard, after standing nealry a hundred years (5 feet in diamter across the trunk), thinks the trees are suddenly a menace to fall on the house. Cuts 'em down...unreal...
