third party image

Someone on the New Ag Talk forum posted this picture of a nice old Cockshutt SP combine taken at a farm show in Ohio.

It looks like sitting beside it is a Cockshutt tractor on a 2 row mounted picker.

I'm guessing its a late model 428 Drive-O-Matic Deluxe.

Lance, are you finding any Cockshutt combines in Wyoming?

I haven't seen any Cockshutt equipment around. I think there might be some at Gary's auction in June.

Ever try to unload on-the-go with one of those? I have and it's tough. You have very little side-to-side movement to avoid either hitting the unloading auger or missing the grain from being too far out. Now that was with a truck so you couldn't see as well as to what was happening. Using a tractor and today's grain carts would be much easier. The highly vertical auger was a bad design unless you stopped to unload.

I never ran a Cockshutt but did run a 92 Massey for a couple of summers. They had the vertical unloading auger also. At the end of the spout there was a flip up to shoot the grain out. I am sure we never tried unloading on the go with that machine but the extra flip and dry wheat would really catch you if you weren't watching and shoot it off the other side of the truck.
