Here sits an old 21-A MH combine awaiting its fate. Will it end up in China or will it end up in a collectors hands?

I found this picture in an online photo album. It doesnt appear to be in too bad of shape except for the reel.

I grew up on the plains of North Dakota in the days when the M-H 21-A was one of the "kings of the field". I understand both sides of the coin in whether you save all these old combines or just save a few good samples. There is certainly nostalgia AND economics at work. Lots of people (including me) would like to have an old combine in their shed (mine would be a very early John Deere 55), but simply can"t do it because of economics of moving it or in having any space to store it. Those of you who have time, money and shed space are so very fortunate. Consider that a real blessing. I commend you for saving those you can and if any of you ever plan a combine show of some type, please post details here so those of us interested can attend and at least look at these great machines of the past. Even sharing these great photos is of value. Thanks to all of you who are doing this. (sometimes, I get a knot in my stomach just thinking back about the days of the old 55 on the farm when I was 25, but engineering school was my choice at the time, which I don"t regret at all, and now being retired, I can again "get my feet in the dirt"!!)

50 50,your thoughts I do understand, maybe someday you can get "closer"so you may enjoy what the "Harvestors" give to all of us in here.I know I like so many others have been "bitten" bad. There are friends of mine that cant understand me.Today here in North Dakota it is 2 degrees above, and I was hopeing to run into a guy that I know that has a combine sitting in his yard.Yea it will be a parts machine, but it just might save another.

Funny thing I did,I copied off a bunch of old advertising and other pictures of old harvestors and old tractors and dealerships, and framed them in cheap 2 buck frames and hung them in this potbellied heated shack I have.I dont really know what others think, but I know I sure enjoy them and it really keeps me thinking of all these wonderful machines. Will help too when you cant be around them with this cold weather

Ande,

We shared some emails awhile back about Case tractors (the big standards 830-930 of the 1960s) if you remember. I'm not sure I understand your comments about "getting closer so I can enjoy what the Harvestors give to all of us here". I do feel close and enjoy all of you here even if I don't have a real combine in my shed. I also go to some local shows (Southern MN) that feature working combines and truly enjoy those.

I think about how it got to that spot. Was she driven there, shut off and thats it? Or was she so run down that something happened in the field and her days of threshing ended that way.Think of the day she arrived at the first farm. How proud the first owner was,it goes on and on.....
