Fellers,

I didn't have any luck over on the Implement forum, so I thought maybe somebody here would step up to the plate and offer some suggestions, advice, whatever.

I want to buy a green bean picker and I am aware that at least one other man who frequents ytmag is looking as well.

Really, neither of us know where to source good used machines. I am in eastern KY and he is in Missouri.

The Pixall looks sorta like a sideways mounted combine....so I guess it is indeed a combine of sorts.

So, do any of you have experience with a Pixall, have any idea what a decent used one sells for and where in the country would be a good place to look for one? Thanks.

We have a Chisholm Ryder 3 row bean picker with 4 wheel drive and an added third cleaning fan for sale. Field ready and is good for harvesting small acres per day. Was used as a back up machine for Beanstalker, but due to expansion we are adding another Beanstalker.

Mark, are you looking for the trailer type picker ot the semi mounted one? A few farmers in our area are not using these small pickers, since they have gone to the Big Jack. Let me know which one you would prefer, and I will get you some numbers. I have a 4-30 Pixall sweet corn header for sale if anyone needs one.

H2,

I think I'd rather have the trailer type BH100 Pixall, simply because everything I have read about it says it is very simple and reliable. I know nothing about any type on the market. I have read about the Byron picker too. The only negative I can see in the trailer type, is the required headland room to turn it around. That wouldn't present a problem for me.

My main concern is the thing not be problematic, have a long service life and low maintenance. And if parts are needed, being able to get them.

I want to find a nice used machine...but not 'used up' (worn out). Price is a big factor for me because this is a retirement gig and not a livelihood matter. Any information you can provide would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Heck yeah, I'd be interested in it. It actually sounds like it might be a bit more machine than I need or can afford...but who knows until you look. I'd appreciate any information/phone number you can get me. Thanks very much.

Mark...you might check with Pixall as their sales department would know of canneries that are getting new machines and disposing of their older harvesters.

Mark, a buddy of mine had two pixall pickers at Rebel auction yard in Hazelhurst Georgia for last months auction. They grew snap beans for about five or six years and decided to quit.Dont know if they sold or not.You might call Rebel and find out if they are still down there.
