Most of us are running 1960's, 1970's, and 1980's combines. What are you going to do when the ol' combine finally gives up and wants to go to combine heaven? Go to one of the huge 6-row combines of today laying out tens of thousands of dollars? Most won't even fit in our sheds. Wish somebody was making a new, no-frills 4-row combine. I can't believe there's not enough of us small farmers left that there wouldn't be a market for it. Red or Green, I wouldn't care.

First of all, we've got to stop wanton destruction including demo derbies. Secondly, we need better communications and links between those with old, good-running, small bines for sale or even just to give away--with those who need them to sustain their small farms.

Sure demolition derbies are bad, but they only accout for a very small percentage of combines lost per year. It's just that the manner in which they die--is so inhumane.

No chance of mfrs building small ones again. Plenty of them around now to buy and store. I bought an M2 hydro a few years ago to use, bought a good M2 gear drive to keep it from the scrapper-just needed a new camshaft in the diesel engine (paul, others, I know you are listening!). Good machines are out there. But no one will build the small ones again.

There are some China imports trying to make inroads to this market..... Yea, I know.....

I've used an F, then an F2 combine since 1980. That's 15 years per maybe. Looking for a good M or so sized machine to take me the next 15, then maybe relax in my old years and hire it done. :)

Here is a 'different' concept in small combines from India I guess.

Link

Preet brand, with a whole tractor minus wheels mounted on top with a chain drive. Really looks different! You sit on the tractor, mounted way up there....

It came from the factory like that, believe it or not. Yes, I know it seems like more waste in using the whole chassis and all, but look again and you will see that the tractor's operators station--is the one for the combine.

I'd have much rather seen the engine alone, used and the combine with its own work station. Oh well. Weird stuff. Their big model is current, but looks like it was brand-new in 1967!

Still a pretty style for that big one. It just takes me back some 40 years is all.
