Right in the middle of corn harvest I got the bright idea to take off by myself for Kimball,Nebraska which is almost 750 miles from home.It took most of Friday to get up there.

An always shedded MH 21 canvas machine was selling on an estate sale.Decent canvas 21's are few and far between so I decided I would make an attempt to purchase it.I have only found one 21 canvas combine and its parts only.Put the canvas's on this one and its nearly field ready

They started out early Sat morn selling toys and then sold for hours on a fantastic collection of old tractor, truck, combine, implement sales lit.The prices were unreal so didnt get alot bought but did get a few nice combine pieces.

Finally late in the afternoon after selling the tractors and crawlers they finally got to the 21 MH.After being on pins and needles all day it was over quickly and I was top bidder and bought it for less than planned on.I was sure happy but was dreading loading it plus the long drive home.

While I was loading I received an offer of $300 for the 21's headlights but had to turn it down.

I started loading it Sat eve but ran out of daylight after taking the header loose and removing all the tall stuff..I barely slept that night and was back out there the next morning 45 minutes before the sun came up.A storm with lots of lightning wasnt too far away.

I finally took off for home Sun morning at 8:45 CST (7:45 Mountain) and 740 miles later I was home at 12:30 am Monday morning.I fought an overcharging alternator most of the way home and made it after frequent fuel stops.7 MPG and over $3.00 plus diesel sure gets in your pocket rather quicky. The wind was ferocious in Kansas and sometimes 40-50 MPH was it.

This morning it was back to shelling corn.I broke down this evening and will let the neighbor get the last 20 acres for me.I'm totally worn out and need to get caught up on some sleep-etc.

This isnt a great picture.I was so tired and the glare on the camera was so bright that I didnt get it centered too well.

The canvas's are laying in the header. The unloading auger is on top of the combine.

I got some extra parts with it including (4) sickles and several extra NOS wood pitmans plus two tool boxes full of sickle parts.

Seeing the canvas and the end of the header reminds me of my Dad telling of a neighbor who had a 21 and did custom work with it. He would hook the two canvasses together, remove the end of the header and swath with it. He also did custom wheat harvesting and I have wondered if he did the first harvest brigade with it. Need to find his daughter and see if she knows.

1206, that is one great fine, but I really read into your trip and worrying about getting home and truck problems.I have been there and know your thoughts and feelings. But the main thing is you got it home and she is under roof.Love to see when you get her in the field again. Thanks for sharing these great pictures!

Once you get it back in the field you need to get pictures posted so we all can enjoy. I went to Cedar Rapids IA for a 12a, and it was the hardest pull for the 350 stroker I have ever pulled. But it is good to save this old iron for the hungry scrapers.
Best of luck
