On MF 550 the auger will retract quickly but is very slow to go out. Thinking dirt in the line but where do I start looking? Thanks..... Lee

I had the same problem with my MF 550. Got to the point that the auger would not even go out. Here was the problem. Under the side panel there is a hydralic valve. The levers that run the reel height, variable speed and unloading auger are hooked to this valve. Inside of the control valve there is a pressure relief valve. In my case the pressure relief valve had moved and was letting all of the pressure bypass any remote operations. So, I took the valve out. Found the pressure relief valve. Screwed downward on the set screw which compresses a spring and a ball. Before I screwed it down I made sure it wouldn't move again with some lock tight. Fixed the problem immediately. The owners manual (maybe repair manual) shows this pressure relief valve. Samething could happen on a MF 410 and MF 510. I think you can take the valve out and fix it and put it back in over a couple of hours. Goodluck.

I'm not an MF 550 guy, but the problem could be dirt and chaff in and around the lever linkage. Had this problem on my 4400 where the reel would lift quickly but go down very slowly. The problem was with chaff next to the control valve blocking full movement of the linkage and valve rod.
