Helping a friend get a combine running again. Its been setting quite awhile and he tells me that he parked it after it blew a water hose and got pretty hot. When we started it there is white smoke (steam?) coming from the exhaust. I thought it might have a head gasket leaking water into the cylinder(s). There isn't any water in the oil and I couldn't see any oil in the radiator. I don't know much about diesels so my question is can I just do a pressure check on the radiator and a compression check on each cylinder or should we just go ahead and pull the head? We would appreciate any help you can give.

I would probably pressurize the cooling system first, then remove the injectors after awhile and then crank the engine over. At least you might find which cylinder is taking on water. I have done this before and works well. Might get you headed in the right direction anyways!

I am in nw Mo and will sell this one cheaper than you can fix that one probably. If this engine got hot might have cracked head or these blocks had a habbitt of breaking below the headbolts. With smoke coming out the exhaust at the very least you have head gasket and probably a cracked head.
jddriveatcomcastdotnet and will send you details. We quit using this machine due to getting a hillside machine
